Buy Here is a local economic development initiative of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. The program’s goal is to strengthen our local economy through increased business-to-business purchasing. If every business in Johnson County shifted just 5% of their out-of-area spending, the change would result in approximately $95 million for our community.
Imagine the power of that money recirculating in our community . . . new jobs, business expansion, improved public services, streets, parks and schools and new startup businesses based on locally identified needs. Since its inaugural year in April 2007, the Area Chamber Buy Here Campaign has shifted more than $6 million into Johnson County. Today, more than 200 businesses, non-profits and local governments have pledged to shift 5% of the non-local spending back to Johnson County.
Just 5% makes a difference!
1. Shift product purchases.

2. Shift service purchases.
Shift services such as banking, legal, accounting, 401K management, Web site development and hosting, public relations and advertising services, and much more! You’ll be surprised at the wealth of talented local suppliers!
3. Shift the obvious.
Consumables like office cleaning supplies, printed materials and ad specialties are readily available locally and can be delivered to your door – often without the extra shipping costs!
4. Shift the subtle.
Shift your company credit card or gas card to local institution. Easy enough!
5. Shift the unique.
