Posted:  July 15, 2008

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released $1,264,736 to Iowa City through the Community Development Block Grant program and the HOME program.

"These federal funds will help Iowa City pick up the pieces after the recent flooding by promoting affordable housing to low and moderate-income families," Grassley said.

The Community Development Block Grant program promotes the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment.  This program also aims to expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income households.

The HOME program helps expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low and very low-income families by providing grants to state and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.

The allocation of funds is as follows:
$651,005 to Iowa City through the Community Development Block Grant program
$613,731 to Iowa City through the HOME program
