Washington, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the City of Coralville will receive $7,158,520 for the construction of rail corridor improvements that will prevent future damages to area businesses. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to help recover from the disaster. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate panel that funds economic development projects.

“As we recover and rebuild from last year’s flooding, it is important to also look forward and work to prevent a disaster like this from happening again,” Senator Harkin said. “This grant will go a long way towards safeguarding our businesses and communities from future damage.”

Harkin worked to provide $500 million in EDA disaster emergency funding that passed Congress after last year’s flooding.
