In spring 2007, the Area Chamber launched its Buy Here campaign asking local businesses to pledge to shift 5 percent of current expenditures made outside Johnson County to our area.
If every business in Johnson County shifted a mere 5 percent of their out-of-area spending, the change would result in approximately $95 million for our community. This figure equates to new jobs, business expansion; improved public services; streets, parks and schools.
“Now in its second year, Buy Here promotes local spending that will contribute to the area’s economic vigor,” said Nancy Quellhorst, Area Chamber president & CEO. “Shifting non-local procurements to Johnson County creates jobs and strengthens the businesses on whom we depend for tax dollars and philanthropy.”
