As the 2020 Census draws near, households will begin to receive invitations to participate in mid-March, with the official Census Day on April 1st.

Accurate census data can provide businesses with information such as:

Consumer demographics
Community engagement
Hiring strategies
Expansions and closures and much more
We encourage you and your business(es) to use the Census Toolkit for Iowa Business Owners and Operators. This provides talking points, flyers, as well as social media content examples to utilize to boost participation. To gain the most public funding for our communities and businesses, it is essential to inform and engage your customers of the importance of responding to the Census.

Local government is directly affected from census counts, and your business and customer base reaps the benefits from things such as bus routes, housing, and other amenities to attract consumers. Your participation also affects your representation in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the presidential electoral college election system.

Another tool that can benefit your business is the Census Business Builder (CBB). With this, customer data can be easily accessed to see exactly what kind of customer demographics are in a business_s area. The CBB makes it easy to find customer information such as: customer profiles, customer socioeconomic and housing statuses, and consumer spending in your market.

Our local municipalities are working cooperatively as a region to get a high response rate for the 2020 Census. The cities of Coralville, Iowa City, North Liberty, Tiffin, and University Heights, and Johnson County are partnering on getting the word out to our residents, businesses, community organizations, and nonprofits. Identical information is being shared on these respective websites.
